Re: Sofia - Metroul punmeister

Metrovagonmash, part of Transmashholding, and Metropolitan EAD signed a contract to upgrade Sofia metro trains.

Under the agreement, Metrovagonmash will carry out major repair and upgrade works for three 4-car metro trains (12 metro cars) of 81-717.4/714.4 series. The contract includes an option for other 40 cars.

The exterior and interior of carriages will be upgraded, and the potentially flammable interior trim materials will be replaced with other ones that meet modern requirements for passenger transport safety.

The seats will be replaced with new comfortable seats and modern seats will be installed in the train’s cab. The metro trains will be equipped with smoke and temperature sensors, on-board passenger information LED display and new warm to the touch handrails. The head of the carriages will be designed for people with wheelchairs and baby strollers. Almost all the equipment will be replaced on metro trains.

The wheel axles will be equipped with anti-slip and anti-skid protection, and new intercar couplings will be installed. The overhaul and modernisation of the Sofia metro trains will extend their service life by 15 years.

Following the contract, Metropolitan EAD will receive modern metro cars with new equipment and stylish and modern design.

Previously, Metrowagonmash carried out overhaul and repair of two 4-car Sofia metro trains of 81-717.4 / 714.4 series.

The modernised metro cars were delivered to the Sofia Metro in early 2020.
Metrowagonmash and the Metropolitan EAD have been cooperating since 1998. Almost the entire fleet of metro carriages in the capital of Bulgaria, totalling 168 metro carriages, were manufactured by Metrowagonmash at the Mytishchi plant, near Moscow.

Pe 24 aprilie a fost inaugurata extensia liniei 3 de la Krasno Selo la Gorna Banya:
Sofia metro underground transit system’s extension to Gorna Banya borough went into service on April 24, adding four new stations and a connection to the railway line serving south-western Bulgaria.

Sofia mayor Yordanka Fandukova said that that an estimated 50 000 people were expected to make use of the extension, which is expected to decrease car traffic in the area by 25 per cent, allowing residents along the new section of metro line 3 to reach the city centre in 12 minutes.

As part of the construction, Sofia authorities have built or modernised five km of city boulevards and built three parking lots with 700 cars capacity, she said. The new section is four km and takes the total length of Sofia’s metro network to 52km.

The new section is also expected to reduce traffic in the central part of Sofia, as railway passengers will now be able to hop off the train and onto the metro at the newly-built railway station in Gorna Banya, rather than at the Central Railway Station, state railways BDZ said earlier in the week.

The new station creates a “convenient connection” to passengers of the railway line serving Pernik, Kyustendil and Blagoevgrad, offering people from outside Sofia who travel for work in the city every day a cleaner transportation alternative, BDZ said.

BDZ said that a booth selling metro tickets would be open in the railway station, while machines selling railway tickets would be installed in the metro station.

Further expansion of Sofia metro line 3 will focus on the eastwards, with eight stations planned, reaching Sofia Tech Park in one direction and Levski G neighbourhood in the other, Transport Minister Rossen Zhelyazkov said.

Re: Sofia - Metroul PTMZ

TMH shipped 12 overhauled and modernised Series 81-717.4/714.4 metro carriages to Sofia Metro as part of a contract signed in 2020. Earlier in 2020, the Russian rolling stock manufacturer delivered a pilot batch of 8 modernised metro cars to Sofia.

On the grounds of the customer’s positive feedback, an amendment to the contract was signed that involved a similar overhaul of additional 40 metro carriages.

The currently the active contract sets TMH to overhaul and modernise 40 cars for Sofia Metro in three stages covering two batches of 12 carriages and one batch of 16 carriages. Each stage is to take not more than 12 months.

The overhauled rolling stock will be used to form 4-car metro trains for Sofia Metro’s Line 1 and Line 2.

The refurbishment and modernisation activities involve the most equipment, the exterior, and the interior of the trains.

Among many operations, the overhaul included the defectoscopy of the car bodies, a complete overhaul of the driver’s cabs, installation of new asynchronous drives, and overall reduction of weight. The driver’s cabs now feature the new control board with multiple displays, able to switch between English and Bulgarian languages.

The trains have new wheelsets with anti-skid protection, new coupling mechanisms, fire safety compliant trim materials, injury-free windows and new comfortable seats, temperature sensors, as well as LED information displays.

The electric outfitting of the carriages was refreshed to allow reduced power consumption.

The interiors received a new, modern outlook with new wear-resistant seats and handrails. Each unit now features smoke and temperature sensors. The interior was also adapted to the passengers with reduced mobility providing special spaces for wheelchair and baby strollers.

The overhaul extends the lifecycle of the rolling stock by 15 years, increased the level of comfort and safety for passengers and drivers, and reduced the volume of required maintenance.
