WESTbahn Management GmbH, filială a RAIL Holding AG, este o companie feroviară privată ce operează trenuri Express între Wien Westbahnhof și Salzburg Hauptbahnhof, fiind principala concurență pe această linie a OBB, compania de stat.

Trenurile circulă la interval de o oră și opresc în stațiile: Wien Westbahnhof, Wien-Hütteldorf, St. Pölten Hbf, Amstetten, Linz Hbf, Wels Hbf, Attnang-Puchheim and Salzburg Hbf. De la lansarea serviciului și până în Septembrie 2013, trenurile au oprit în stațiile Taxham Europark și Freilassing din Salzburg, din cauza lucrărilor la gara principală.

Flota constă în 7 trenuri electrice cu două nivele Stadler KISS, cu o capacitate de 501 locuri și o viteză mazimă de 200 km/h. Fiecare tren are unul din cele 6 vagoane configurat ca restaurant, de unde se pot lua băuturi reci și calde (de la automate), dar și gustări. Fiecare vagon are un însoțitor. Există un vagon pentru pasagerii premium, denumit WESTbahn PLUS.

Cum probabil vă așteptați, interiorul garniturilor este impecabil și cu design modern, aveți mai jos fotografii și filmări dintr-o vizită recentă a mea prin Viena și Salzburg.

Pasagerii au acces la WiFi în tren. WESTbahn are propriile automate de bilete și afișaje cu informații în gară, lângă cele ale operatorului național. Pe lângă asta, au un site foarte bine dezvoltat și sistemul de rezervări online, plus o aplicație mobilă. Își afișează mersul de tren și pe Google Maps Transit, unde se evidențiază prin indicative și culori diferite de OBB.

Numărul de rame electrice etajate STADLER KISS, de mare capacitate și viteză a crescut de la 7 la 17, prin achiziția de trenuri model nou dar asemănător „KISS 2”.

Din data de 10 Decembrie 2017, WESTbahn va introduce curse Vienna Main Station (gara centrală) -> Salzburg, suplimentându-le pe cele existente Wien Westbahnhof (gara de vest, secundară) care rămân în orar. Până pe data de 9 Decembrie 2017, între VIENNA MAIN STATION și WIEN WESTBAHNHOF operează curse scurte „westshuttle”, având un orar sincronizat cu plecările trenurilor normale spre Salzburg. Cu această ocazie călătorii pot achiziționa bilete VIENNA MAIN STATION - LINZ / SALZBURG cu schimbare în WIEN WESTBAHNHOF la un preț avantajos și pot totodată să testeze noua flotă de trenuri.

O ramă model KISS 2 a fost repartizată cursei WESTshuttle, urmând ca până în toamnă toate trenurile noi să ajungă în posesia operatorului, pregătite pentru extensia propriu-zisă din Decembrie, în urma acreditării și omologării pentru efectuarea de curse comerciale, obținută luna trecută de la Swiss Federal Office of Transport - un fel de AFER al Elvețienilor, fabricanții trenurilor STADLER.

Din seria „cum e pe la alții” - compania austriacă de infrastructură a susținut demersul companiei private de suplimentare a trenurilor de navetă Viena - Salzburg, a facilitat introducerea shuttle-ului, utilizabil și ca tren regional, și nu așteaptă vreo datorie colosală, nici de la un operator privat, nici de la unul de stat.

AUSTRIAN private operator Westbahn has confirmed to IRJ that it is working with CRRC Zhuzhou to add four new six-car double-deck trains to its fleet.

Images of the trains donned in Westbahn’s distinctive white, green and blue livery appeared on social media on June 2 following a Chinese news report announcing their development. Westbahn says it plans to lease the four trains when they are certified for operation in Austria, which is expected in summer-autumn 2023.

The private operator says testing of the first trains is expected to commence at the Velim test circuit in the Czech Republic in August with tests also set to take place at the Minden circuit in Germany.

Westbahn says it has worked alongside CRRC to develop the train and took great care to ensure that the central elements are equipped with components from European suppliers.

Westbahn adds that the CRRC trains are multi-system and could be used to operate services in other countries.

The new trains will supplement the operator’s new fleet of 15 six-car Kiss 3 double-deck EMUs from Stadler, the first of which it expects to receive this autumn. Stadler overcame a CRRC bid to win the €300m contract in October 2019.

The Kiss 3 fleet will replace the 17 double-deck Kiss sets Westbahn sold to German Rail (DB) in 2019. Nine four-car trains have already transferred to DB and the remaining eight six-car sets will transfer by the end of the year.

The Head of Mobility Directorate General at Austria’s Federal Ministry of Climate Action, Environment and Mobility, Herbert Kasser, and the CEO of of Westbahn, Erich Forster, presented the new Kiss 3 trainset, manufactured by Stadler.

The third generation of fleet that WESTbahn has ordered from the Swiss manufacturer is also the first to be on the operation in Austria with approval from the European Railway Agency, in less than two years after the order contract was signed.

As the most modern train series in Austrian long-distance traffic, the Kiss 3 double deck trains are also an asset for the Klimaticket (the annual ticket for the Vienna – Salzburg rail services), because they are new, safe and comfortable vehicles, providing passengers modern amenities.

To offer the Klimaticket customers not only benefit state-of-the-art trains, but also more connections from October 26th as Westbahn is expanding its timetable by eight train connections per day.

The new Kiss 3 vehicles will offer up to six continuous connections per day between Vienna Westbahnhof and Munich Hauptbahnhof and from here, the passenger can easily change to the S-Bahn to Munich Airport. Within the next timetable, starting December 2021, the operator, in cooperation with the State of Salzburg and Salzburger Verkehrsverbund will provide to Salzburg two trains in the morning and three afternoon trains from Salzburg in Straßwalchen, Neumarkt am Wallersee and Seekirchen am Wallersee.

Despite the expanded technical equipment, the weight of the Kiss 3 trainset was reduced by two tonnes which means that the train uses around 25% less energy for a journey from Vienna to Salzburg than other fleets on this route. In addition, the Kiss 3 are “route-friendly” on the infrastructure, as the maximum axle load is only around 18.5 tonnes, around 3.5 tonnes below other common long-distance trains. The new vehicles are better equipped for operational operations than the fleets before benefiting the ETCS Level 2 – Baseline 3 train control system which ensures increased safety and comfort.

The train has an improved air conditioning system, optimised toilet system with disinfectant dispenser. A novelty is the introduction of a new class (Comfort Class 2+), expanding from a two (Standard and First Class) to a three-class concept. The three distinct colours (orange, yellow and petrol) associated to each class help travelers to better orient in the train but they are also a guidance role inside the train and also when the reservations are made online.

“The Kiss 3 is a three-fold ‘win’: a climate-friendly new fleet for the Klimaticket, an economically smart new train fleet for the WESTbahn and a comfortable and attractive new fleet for all travelers,” Herbert Kasser said.

In 2019, Westbahn and Stadler signed a EUR 300 million contract for the supply of 15 six-car double-decker Kiss trains, including the delivery of maintenance and general inspections and revisions. Nokia was selected to design, install and maintain the Wi-Fi connection and the switching and control systems for company’s operations control centre.
